"Our greatest fear should not be of failure but of succeeding at things in life that don't really matter" -Francis Chan
What life are you building?
We live in a world that constantly markets good things. Success, achievement, accomplishment, status, fame, fortune, just to name a few. While there’s nothing inherently wrong with any of those things, they certainly aren’t suitable foundations upon which a life can be built.
It’s easy to allow our identity to be shaped by these influences. And when we do, we create an identity for ourselves that becomes an exhaustive burden that we were never meant to carry: My future and my identity depend on my performance and my behavior. I am in charge and solely responsible for my success and outcome. I am only as good as my last performance. I have to measure up – on my own.
I should know because I allowed those influences to shape my identity and my life for far too many years. It’s easy to get our priorities out of line and end up giving our leftovers to the things that matter most in our life. I experienced this and saw it all of the time during my 30+ year banking career. So often business, career, and financial success came at the expense of marriages, families, friends, dreams and even faith. These are the priorities that matter most.
Today I help individuals build a life with intention by defining their purpose and living out their priorities. It’s not about just coming up with new goals, but in making a detailed plan for how you’re going to make consistent progress and build better habits.
The reason we fail is that we try to wing it. And that never works. Will power alone isn’t enough.
Through coaching I listen, encourage, challenge, and provide compassionate accountability and structure needed for you to become who you want to be and what you want to accomplish in your life, in light of God’s word and leading.
Changing behavior is really hard, but you don’t have to do it alone.
